Ponyta race across the riverbank west of Viridian. The trail climbs from there up toward Victory Road.
Route 22 is in Kanto, with Viridian City to the east. In the story it comes after Route 19 and before Route 28.

A wall splits Route 22 down the middle, so you wind south and north through the grass before the road to the league gatehouse runs straight.
- Enter from Viridian City and follow the narrow path south along the route's eastern edge.
- At its foot, turn west and push north through the tall grass to the long upper lane.
- Follow that lane west, then hop down the ledge just west of the pond into the grass below.
- Cross the grass south and walk west, staying off the long ledge along the south edge, which drops you onto a lane that only leads back east.
- Take the narrow path north on the west side, then walk west along the top into the gatehouse at the end of the route.
Pokemon Encounters
West of Viridian, a 5 percent Ponyta bolts out of the grass, an early Fire pick among the Spearow, Doduo, and Rattata. Poliwag and Magikarp wait on the rods in the ponds.
