HeartGold & SoulSilver Ruins of Alph
Carve-covered chambers sit south of Violet, the radio above them hissing into static. Reassemble each tile mural and the Unown surface, the living letters those murals once spelled.
Ruins of Alph is in Johto, with Route 36 to the north. In the story you arrive from Route 32 to the south and it comes before Union Cave.
RUINS OF ALPH MAP
The Ruins of Alph hide four sliding-tile puzzles, and each one you solve collapses its floor to drop you a level. The farthest rooms open only once you can Surf across and shift a Strength boulder.
Pokemon Encounters
Solve the sliding puzzles and the chambers fill with Unown, the only place in the region to catch the letter Pokemon. Out in the open grass, Smeargle wanders around at 10 percent and Natu hops nearby, while Rock Smash and the rods add a few cave and water catches.

Ruins of Alph Guide
The Ruins of Alph hold 28 Unown forms in HGSS, the 26 letters plus the ! and ? punctuation shapes that the original Gold and Silver lacked. Finish the slide puzzles, catch all 26 letter forms, and complete the Unown Report, then examine the back wall of the main entrance room to open the encounter. The ! and ? forms then appear in that entrance room, and tuning the Pokegear radio inside the ruins skews encounters toward forms you still need.
Walking into the Ruins of Alph with an event Arceus as your follower triggers the Sinjoh Ruins event, teleporting you straight to the Sinjoh Ruins, and the game credits the combined power of Arceus and the Unown for the jump.
