HeartGold & SoulSilver Route 36
Until the Squirtbottle douses it, what looks like a roadside tree here is a dozing Sudowoodo planted across the only path north. Splash it awake and the trail to Ecruteak finally opens.
Route 36 is in Johto, with Violet City to the north, Route 35 to the south, and Ruins of Alph to the south. In the story you arrive from National Park to the north and continue north to Route 37.

- After removing the Sudowoodo, talk to Floria for the Berry Pots, an Oran Berry and a Pecha Berry.

- When you are ready to move on, head north into Route 37.
Fire StoneIn HeartGold, a Growlithe caught on this route becomes Arcanine with that Fire Stone.
In SoulSilver, the same stone turns a Vulpix from this route into Ninetales.

A stubborn Sudowoodo bars the path north until you rouse it, a one-time level 20 catch. In the grass, Stantler at 5 percent is the standout Normal type, with Growlithe in HeartGold or Vulpix in SoulSilver for an early Fire option.
