Team Rocket HQ is in Johto, with Mahogany Town to the north. In the story it comes after Lake of Rage and before Radio Tower.

- Take the passage south to the room with the computer for the switch. Back on the top corridor, a Team Rocket Grunt battles you at the west end.
- Take the west passage south past its hidden traps. Pick up the NuggetNuggetA nugget of pure gold that gives off a lustrous gleam. It can be sold at a high price to shops.B1F; in the southwest corner in the southwest corner along the south corridor, then return to the stairs down to B2F.

Clearing the Mahogany hideout earns HM05 Whirlpool from Lance, the move that opens the whirlpool-blocked sea routes. TM46 Thief and TM49 Snatch are scattered through the base, with a Protein and a hidden Revive in the lower rooms.

Whirlpool inflicts damage on the first turn then traps the opponent in the vortex, causing them to lose 1⁄8 of their maximum HP after each turn, for 4-5 turns.

Guard Spec
An item that prevents stat reduction among the Trainer's party Pokemon for five turns after use.
Ultra Ball
An ultra-performance Ball that provides a higher Pokemon catch rate than a Great Ball.
X Sp. Atk
Raises Special Attack by one stage in battle. Raises happiness.
Hyper Potion
A spray-type medicine for wounds. It restores the HP of one Pokemon by 200 points.
Nugget
A nugget of pure gold that gives off a lustrous gleam. It can be sold at a high price to shops.
X Sp. Def
An item that raises the Sp. Def stat of a Pokemon in battle. It wears off if the Pokemon is withdrawn.
Revive
A medicine that revives a fainted Pokemon. It restores half the Pokemon's maximum HP.

TRAINERS
The Mahogany hideout is a fourteen-fight gauntlet of Grunts and Scientists, capped by Executives Ariana and Petrel. Expect Poison-types and the odd Electrode trap, and bring enough healing to outlast the whole base.

Beneath the Mahogany Town souvenir shop, Team Rocket runs the transmitter that riled up the Lake of Rage Gyarados. You need two passwords from Grunts, SlowpokeTail and RaticateTail, to reach Petrel, then you tag-battle alongside Lance against Ariana before shutting down the Electrode-powered antenna. Lance rewards you with HM05 Whirlpool.
