Is Sableye Good in Emerald Playthrough?
- Early Game
- After Badge 2, catch a low-level Sableye in Granite Cave; Roxanne and Brawly are behind you. Much later, a Lv 30-34 grab at Cave of Origin skips the raise-up.
- Mid Game
- No evolution ever comes. After Badge 3, teach Dig for 2x hits on Flannery's Slugma and Torkoal.
- Endgame
- Knock Off doubles into Phoebe's Dusclops and Banette pairs; fragile bulk keeps Sableye on support duty, never the carry.

Emerald Sableye Locations
Sableye haunts several dark places in Emerald, with seven encounters across four caves from Granite Cave early to Victory Road late. It is common in most of them, so any cave trip after you get going is a fair chance to grab the gem-eyed gremlin.

How to Get Shiny Sableye in Emerald
Sableye stalks the dark walls of Granite Cave and Victory Road; run laps through either cavern and watch for the gemstone glint that marks a shiny. Compare Shiny Sableye odds across every game

2 MethodsBoth methods here share the same odds, about 1 in 8,192 on each try. Pick whichever fits how you play.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
Breeding: Hatch eggs of this line; each egg rolls at the base shiny rate (no Masuda before Gen IV).
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 864-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 2,357-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 5,678-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 18,862-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.
For time estimates and charm math, open the Emerald shiny odds calculator with Sableye already selected.
Sableye Weakness
Sableye has no type weaknesses thanks to its unique defensive typing. Normal, Fighting, and Psychic moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 0.5x (Resist) | Poison |
| 0x (Immune) | Normal, Fighting, Psychic |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move

Sableye Evolutions
Sableye is what you get. No evolutions, but it breeds through one egg group with a decent partner pool. Its eggs take an average time to hatch. It's got 3 egg moves worth looking into. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed Sableye easily with 28 breeding partners from the Human-Like egg group. Pass egg moves like Moonlight, Psych Up, Recover to offspring.
E Sableye Best Moveset
Dark/Ghost typing has zero weaknesses in Gen III before Fairy exists, making Sableye impossible to hit super-effectively. The moveset plays a disruptive role with MoveToxic, MoveRecover, and MoveKnock Off, though the base stats are low enough that it wins through annoyance rather than power.

Stall teams hate this. Sableye can spread damage across 11 types, with Normal and Flying punishing common defensive pivots. STAB from Shadow Ball and Knock Off keeps the pressure honest on everything else.
