Is Latias Good in Emerald Playthrough?
Roaming Hoenn after the E4 if you tell your Mom you saw a red Pokemon on TV. Dragon/Psychic with AbilityLevitate. Latias leans defensive on the special side. The roaming catch is frustrating, but the Dragon/Psychic coverage with Levitate makes Latias one of the strongest postgame options. Battle Frontier anchor.

How to Get Latias in Emerald
Latias has two routes in Emerald, but you only get one Lati per save. If you pick the blue Pokemon on the Mom TV dream, Latias roams Hoenn at level 40 after the league. Otherwise it waits on Southern Island at level 50, reachable only with the Eon Ticket.

How to Get Shiny Latias in Emerald
Latias roams Hoenn the instant you set it loose, and a roamer's shine is fixed at that release, so resetting the battle changes nothing; only a fresh save rerolls it. Pin it with Mean Look, then chip its HP to check the colors. Compare Shiny Latias odds across every game

Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.

Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.
Curious how fast a hunt could go? Work out your Emerald shiny odds for Latias.
Latias Weakness
Latias is weak to Ice, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, and Dark. It resists 6 types, so it can switch into a lot of moves safely. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Latias's special bulk (base 130 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ice, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Fighting, Psychic |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move

Latias Emerald Guide
Mega Evolution isn't available in Emerald, but Latias does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Latias hits 700 BST.
Latias is a static encounter at Southern Island in Emerald. Latias appears at level 50. Prerequisite: After defeating Elite Four, if blue Pokémon seen on TV; requires Eon Ticket event item. Save before the encounter. These one-shot Pokemon don't respawn if you knock them out or run out of Poke Balls.
Yes. Latias is not available during the main story. It can only be obtained after entering the Hall of Fame. Latias becomes available after the main story is complete in Emerald.
In Emerald, Latias plays as a support. It outspeeds most threats, so it can pressure opponents before they move.
In Emerald, Latias pairs best with Groudon, Blissey, and Deoxys Attack. Groudon has Good synergy and covers what Latias can't handle on its own.
Game Availability
Since Ruby & Sapphire, Latias has appeared in 16 games. Legendary Pokemon like Latias are usually found through story events or special post-game areas rather than random encounters.
