Is Ralts Good in Emerald Playthrough?
Route 102, rare encounter. Ralts is Psychic-only in Gen 3 with AbilitySynchronize or AbilityTrace. Gardevoir at 30 is one of Emerald's best Pokemon. The catch window is tight since Ralts is uncommon. Invest immediately if you find one. Handles Brawly, contributes against Phoebe, and the Special power lasts all game.
Level 13 Ralts faces Roxanne's level 15 ace, with Geodude's MoveRock Throw and MoveRock Tomb, Nosepass's Rock Tomb, and Ralts's Psychic attacks all landing at neutral. That two-level gap makes this a fair fistfight, not a typing win.
Ralts cuts Brawly's Fighting pressure to half strength. Machop brings MoveKarate Chop, Meditite brings MoveFocus Punch, and Makuhita uses MoveArm Thrust and MoveVital Throw. Machop and Makuhita both crumble to double-damage Psychic hits; Meditite's own Psychic half blunts them to neutral.
Magneton resists Kirlia's Psychic attacks at half strength, and no available move exploits its four-times Ground weakness. MoveMud-Slap unlocks only after this badge, while Voltorb carries a 200-power MoveSelf-Destruct. Lead a Ground-type instead.
MoveOverheat deals neutral damage to Kirlia, whether it comes from Numel, Slugma, Camerupt, or Torkoal. Now unlocked, MoveMud-Slap doubles into Numel and Camerupt, though its 20 power keeps the payoff small.
Kirlia takes double damage when Vigoroth or Slaking uses MoveFeint Attack. Psychic attacks chip Spinda, Vigoroth, Linoone, and Slaking at neutral, so the matchup hinges on avoiding that Dark coverage.
Gardevoir's MoveThunderbolt hits Winona's Pelipper for four-times damage. The same Thunderbolt catches Swablu and Skarmory for double damage, turning three separate targets into one attacking plan.
Half-strength MovePsychic attacks give Gardevoir room against Tate and Liza, though Claydol's MoveEarthquake and Solrock's MoveFlamethrower remain neutral. MoveShadow Ball enters the pool at this badge and breaks Claydol, Xatu, Lunatone, and Solrock alike for double damage.
Whiscash shrugs Electric off entirely and Kingdra caps both MoveThunderbolt and Psychic attacks at neutral, but Gardevoir's Thunderbolt still carves double damage out of Luvdisc, Sealeo, and Crawdaunt.
Sidney's Mightyena, Shiftry, Cacturne, Crawdaunt, and Absol are immune to MoveFuture Sight, while Mightyena's MoveCrunch and Cacturne's MoveFeint Attack return double damage. One live target remains: Crawdaunt takes double damage from MoveThunderbolt.
Expect double damage from every member of Phoebe's team: one Dusclops uses MoveShadow Punch, while the other Dusclops, both Banette, and Sableye carry MoveShadow Ball. Gardevoir's Shadow Ball punishes Dusclops and Banette for double damage, but Psychic attacks cannot affect Sableye.
Glacia's Ice attacks never rise above neutral on Gardevoir, and MoveThunderbolt drops both Sealeo and Walrein for double damage. Watch the two Glalie: one swings MoveCrunch, the other MoveShadow Ball, and both hit twice as hard.
Against Drake, Gardevoir's MoveFuture Sight lands clean neutral damage across Shelgon, Altaria, Kingdra, Flygon, and Salamence. MoveIce Punch remains post-game only, leaving the four-times Ice weakness on three of his dragons out of reach. Stick with Future Sight while respecting MoveCrunch, the double-damage answer Flygon and Salamence throw back.
On Wallace's team, Whiscash nullifies Gardevoir's MoveThunderbolt through its Ground typing. Redirect Thunderbolt toward Gyarados for four-times damage, or toward Wailord, Tentacruel, and Milotic for double damage.

How to Get Ralts in Emerald
One thin slot on Route 102 is the only Ralts in Emerald, and its spawn rate is low enough that you can walk the grass for a while before it shows. Patience near Oldale early on is the whole hunt for the Gardevoir line.

How to Get Shiny Ralts in Emerald
Ralts hides in the grass on Route 102, appearing only rarely, so expect long stretches of empty encounters as you comb that early route waiting for the shiny to finally break the pattern. Compare Shiny Ralts odds across every game
Emerald Shiny Ralts Calculator
2 MethodsBoth methods here share the same odds, about 1 in 8,192 on each try. Pick whichever fits how you play.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
Breeding: Hatch eggs of this line; each egg rolls at the base shiny rate (no Masuda before Gen IV).
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 864-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 2,357-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 5,678-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 18,862-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.
Planning a longer hunt? Set up Ralts in the Emerald Shiny Odds Calculator to compare every method side by side.

Ralts Evolutions
Three stages ahead. Ralts grows into Kirlia, then pushes on to Gardevoir. Check the evolution methods below. For breeding, average hatch time with a decent partner pool via two egg groups. Evolving adds up to 320 stat points total. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.

Breeding
Breed Ralts easily with 22 breeding partners from the Amorphous and Human-Like egg groups. Pass egg moves like Destiny Bond, Disable, Mean Look and 2 more to offspring.
E Ralts Best Moveset
Pure Psychic typing with terrible base stats makes Ralts dead weight on any competitive team. The moveset should focus on special Psychic moves while leveling toward Kirlia.
