Ruby & Sapphire Route 119

A long, rain-soaked jungle runs thick with tall grass and river crossings. Grunts have seized the Weather Institute halfway up its length. Drive them out and the shape-shifting Castform is yours.

Route 119 is in Hoenn, with Fortree City to the east. In the story you arrive from Route 118 to the south and continue north to Weather Institute.

ROUTE 119 MAP

The Acro Bike does the real work on Route 119, bunny-hopping you up the white rails that break the long route into steps. Surf covers the river sections, with the Weather Institute a handy marker partway up.

Route 119 Guide

  • Feebas hides on just six water tiles out of hundreds, and any rod works once you stand on one. Fish each tile a few times to narrow it down, and never change the trendy phrase back in Dewford while searching, because that re-randomizes the tiles and you start from scratch.

  • Clear the villain team out of the Weather Institute on this route and a scientist hands you a Castform, the weather Pokemon that shifts form with the sky. Keep a free party slot open before you talk to him so you can accept it on the spot.

  • Several routes do. Ruby drops Seedot and Zangoose into slots where Sapphire gives you Lotad and Seviper, and the caves split Mawile against Sableye. Check the version column before you spend an hour hunting something your copy can't catch. The rest of the species are shared.

  • Reach for the Super Rod on most routes, but two of Hoenn's prize catches ignore rods altogether. Feebas only bites on six hidden tiles of Route 119, and Relicanth comes from diving the seaweed off Routes 124 and 126, not from any rod. For the rest, the Super Rod pulls the deep-water species the Old and Good Rods can't reach.
