Ruby & Sapphire Slateport City
Team grunts swarm the Oceanic Museum to hound Captain Stern over his submarine. You first lay eyes on their leader in this busy beachside port and its open-air Market.
Slateport City is in Hoenn, with Route 134 to the east. In the story you arrive from Route 109 to the south and continue north to Route 110.

Once you hold the seventh gym badge, Captain Stern at the harbor trades the Scanner for a Deep Sea Scale or Deep Sea Tooth.
- Walk north into Slateport City from the Route 109 beach and go through the shipyard door, east of the market.
- The worker inside asks you to take the parts to Captain Stern at the museum, and the grunts outside clear off.

- In Ruby a Team Magma Grunt battles you, and in Sapphire a Team Aqua Grunt battles you.
- His partner battles you straight after, then their leader warns you off and you hand Captain Stern the parts before he hurries away.
- Go back down, walk out through the museum door and head west to the door of the Pokemon Fan Club.

- Inside the Pokemon Fan Club, the woman at the back gives you a Soothe Bell if your lead Pokemon has at least 150 friendship.

Most cities have a Contest Hall, a Pokemon Center with a trade corner upstairs, and a Mart. Slateport runs an open-air market, and Lilycove has the region's only Department Store plus a second Contest venue. Pokemon Centers heal you for free between gym attempts.
Not in the cities. You make one out on the routes by using the Secret Power move on a marked tree, bush, or cave wall. After that you furnish it with decorations sold in Lilycove and Slateport, and linked friends can drop by to see it.
