Ruby & Sapphire Safari Zone

A fenced wildlife preserve swaps your usual Poke Balls for thirty Safari Balls and a step limit. It's the only spot in the region to catch a handful of these species.

Safari Zone is in Hoenn. In the story you arrive from Route 121 to the south and it comes before Route 122.

SAFARI ZONE MAP

The Hoenn Safari Zone fences off four areas, two of them shut until you bring the right bike, the Mach Bike for one and the Acro Bike for the other. A step limit caps how far you roam each visit.

Each northern area of the Safari Zone needs a different bike, and you carry only one per trip.
  1. Step into the entrance field; the attendant who takes his post by the door behind you is your way out.
  2. With the bike that can hop, ride the thin rails north of the field, side jump along them, then follow the path into the northeast area.

Pokemon Encounters

Hoenn's Safari Zone is the rare-hunter's stop: Pikachu, Pinsir, Heracross, and Phanpy roam the grass beside Doduo, Natu, Girafarig, and Rhyhorn. Heracross and Pinsir at 5 percent are the standout grabs, while the Super Rod and Surf add Seaking and Psyduck. Bring patience, since Safari Balls are all you get to throw.

Safari Zone Guide

  • A single run costs an entry fee and gives you 30 Safari Balls and 500 steps, with no battling allowed. Throw a ball, toss Bait, or use a Pokeblock to calm a Pokemon, then keep throwing. The run ends the moment your balls or steps run out, so don't wander aimlessly.

  • Heracross, Pinsir, Pikachu, and the Phanpy line appear here and almost nowhere else in Ruby and Sapphire. Two inner areas are bike-gated: the Mach Bike reaches a SolarBeam TM in the northwest, and the Acro Bike crosses to Phanpy in the northeast.
