Ruby & Sapphire Route 103

Just north of Oldale Town, your rival waits in the route's northwest corner. Birch's kid challenges you to your first trainer battle once you've each picked a starter.

Route 103 is in Hoenn, with Route 110 to the east. In the story you arrive from Oldale Town to the south and it comes before Route 102.

Poochyena and Zigzagoon cover the grass with Wingull overhead, all under level 5. Come back later with a rod and the water gives up Tentacool and Wailmer, nothing you cannot find closer to home.

Route 103 Guide

  • Several routes do. Ruby drops Seedot and Zangoose into slots where Sapphire gives you Lotad and Seviper, and the caves split Mawile against Sableye. Check the version column before you spend an hour hunting something your copy can't catch. The rest of the species are shared.

  • Reach for the Super Rod on most routes, but two of Hoenn's prize catches ignore rods altogether. Feebas only bites on six hidden tiles of Route 119, and Relicanth comes from diving the seaweed off Routes 124 and 126, not from any rod. For the rest, the Super Rod pulls the deep-water species the Old and Good Rods can't reach.
