Ruby & Sapphire Petalburg Woods
Thick woods stand between Petalburg and Rustboro, dark enough to hide their bug Pokemon. A team grunt jumps a Devon researcher on the path, Magma in Ruby and Aqua in Sapphire, and you step in.
Petalburg Woods is in Hoenn. In the story you arrive from Route 104 to the south and it comes before Rustboro City.
PETALBURG WOODS MAP
Winding tree paths make Petalburg Woods more maze than road, easy to loop around in on the way to Rustboro. Nothing blocks the route, though Cut opens a shortcut or two off the main trail.

Pokemon Encounters
Your first forest hides Slakoth at 5 percent, the lazy start to a hard-hitting Slaking, while Shroomish points toward Breloom. Taillow, Wurmple, and Zigzagoon fill the early canopy.

Petalburg Woods holds a Miracle Seed for any Grass starter, plus an Ether and a couple of Great Balls among the trees. Two hidden Tiny Mushrooms add a little sell money.

Tiny Mushroom
A plain, ordinary mushroom. Can be sold cheaply.
TRAINERS
A lone grunt blocks the path early, a Team Magma member in Ruby or a Team Aqua member in Sapphire. The rest are Bug Catchers with nothing past level 9, an easy first forest.
