Emerald Petalburg Woods
Your first woodland trek, between Petalburg and Rustboro. A Team Aqua grunt corners a Devon researcher here for his papers, and stepping in earns you a Great Ball as thanks.
Petalburg Woods is in Hoenn. In the story you arrive from Route 104 to the south and it comes before Rustboro City.

Petalburg Woods is more tangle than trail, its winding lanes easy to lose your bearings in before Rustboro. Cut trims the odd shortcut, though nothing truly blocks the path.

Pokemon Encounters
Petalburg Woods hides two keepers among the bugs: Shroomish at 15% for a Fighting-type Breloom and Slakoth at 5% for the famously lazy Slaking. Wurmple, Silcoon, Cascoon, Poochyena, and Taillow blanket the rest of the grass.

A girl in Petalburg Woods hands out a Miracle Seed for any Grass starter, alongside an Ether and a pair of Great Balls. The Seed and one Great Ball sit behind Cut trees, a return trip after Rustboro.

TRAINERS
A lone Team Aqua grunt blocks the path through Petalburg Woods, your first brush with the villains, but the low-level Bug Catchers on either side of it pose no trouble for any starter.
