Ruby & Sapphire Route 102

West of Oldale, the wild grass invites you to start building a team. Two Grass types split by version here: Seedot in Ruby, Lotad in Sapphire.

Route 102 is in Hoenn, with Oldale Town to the east. In the story it comes after Route 103 and continues west to Petalburg City.

Pokemon Encounters

Ralts hides at 4 percent in the grass, a rare catch on Route 102 and the first step toward Gardevoir. Seedot fills out Ruby's grass while Sapphire swaps in Lotad, and Surskit, rarer still at just 1 percent in the grass or on the water, rewards patient hunters.

Route 102 Guide

  • This is where the version split first appears: Seedot in Ruby, Lotad in Sapphire. The real prize is Ralts, which shows up at just 4 percent, so it takes patience. Surskit also lurks here at a low rate if you want an early Water and Bug catch.

  • Several routes do. Ruby drops Seedot and Zangoose into slots where Sapphire gives you Lotad and Seviper, and the caves split Mawile against Sableye. Check the version column before you spend an hour hunting something your copy can't catch. The rest of the species are shared.

  • Reach for the Super Rod on most routes, but two of Hoenn's prize catches ignore rods altogether. Feebas only bites on six hidden tiles of Route 119, and Relicanth comes from diving the seaweed off Routes 124 and 126, not from any rod. For the rest, the Super Rod pulls the deep-water species the Old and Good Rods can't reach.
