Ruby & Sapphire Route 111
A sandstorm desert opens in central Hoenn, crossable only with Go-Goggles. Two fossils sit in the sand, the Root and the Claw, and you keep just one. The Desert Ruins to the south seal Regirock away.
Route 111 is in Hoenn, with Desert Ruins to the north, Mauville City to the south, and Route 113 to the west. In the story it comes after Route 117 and continues west to Route 112.
ROUTE 111 MAP
The heart of Route 111 is buried under an endless sandstorm you cannot enter without the Go-Goggles. With them on, the desert spreads out around the sealed Desert Ruins at its southern edge.
Pokemon Encounters
Trapinch at 35 percent is the desert prize, the slow grind toward a powerful Flygon, sharing the sand with Cacnea, Baltoy, and Sandshrew. The Desert Ruins hide Regirock at level 40 once you can read the Braille, and Surf or the rods work the small pond at the route's edge.

ITEMS
The desert's big decision is the fossil pick, Claw Fossil for Anorith or Root Fossil for Lileep, since you only keep one. TM37 Sandstorm and a Protein wait deeper in the dunes, while the Winstrate family hands a Macho Brace to anyone who beats all of them.
TM43 Secret Power
Secret Power deals damage and has a 30% chance of inducing a secondary effect on the opponent, depending on the environment.

TRAINERS
Route 111 throws the Winstrate family at you, a family of four you fight back to back with no chance to heal between them. Gabby and Ty, the roving TV crew, also film a battle here and return tougher every time you cross paths. A lone Ruin Maniac rounds out a varied stretch.
Route 111 Guide
A permanent sandstorm blocks the way until you have the Go-Goggles, which a neighbor gives you right after you clear the Lavaridge gym. The sand chips HP each turn from anything that isn't Rock, Ground, or Steel, so heal up or lead with a type that ignores it.
You get one and only one in Ruby and Sapphire, and the other sinks into the sand for good. The Root Fossil revives into Lileep, a Grass and Rock type, while the Claw Fossil becomes Anorith, a Rock and Bug type. Take whichever you choose to Devon in Rustboro to bring it back.
Several routes do. Ruby drops Seedot and Zangoose into slots where Sapphire gives you Lotad and Seviper, and the caves split Mawile against Sableye. Check the version column before you spend an hour hunting something your copy can't catch. The rest of the species are shared.
Reach for the Super Rod on most routes, but two of Hoenn's prize catches ignore rods altogether. Feebas only bites on six hidden tiles of Route 119, and Relicanth comes from diving the seaweed off Routes 124 and 126, not from any rod. For the rest, the Super Rod pulls the deep-water species the Old and Good Rods can't reach.
