How to Get Feebas in Ruby & Sapphire
Feebas hides in a single river tile set, fished with any rod, levels 20 to 25. The catch is that only a handful of spots in that whole stretch hold one, making it the trickiest fish in the game.

How to Get Shiny Feebas in Ruby & Sapphire
Feebas hides on just a handful of fishing tiles along Route 119, so cast a rod on those exact spots and keep at it until a shiny bites. Compare Shiny Feebas odds across every game
Ruby & Sapphire Shiny Feebas Calculator
2 MethodsBoth methods here share the same odds, about 1 in 8,192 on each try. Pick whichever fits how you play.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
Breeding: Hatch eggs of this line; each egg rolls at the base shiny rate (no Masuda before Gen IV).
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 864-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 2,357-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 5,678-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 18,862-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.
For time estimates and charm math, open the Ruby & Sapphire shiny odds calculator with Feebas already selected.
Feebas Weakness
Electric and Grass moves hit Feebas for super-effective damage. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Feebas's special bulk (base 55 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Steel |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet

FEEBAS’s fins are ragged and tattered from the start of its life. Because of its shoddy appearance, this POKéMON is largely ignored. It is capable of living in both the sea and in rivers.
While FEEBAS’s body is in tatters, it has a hardy and tenacious life force that enables it to live anywhere. However, this POKéMON is also slow and dimwitted, making it an easy catch.
Feebas Ruby & Sapphire Guide
Feebas hides on only 6 of about 400 fishable tiles on Route 119 in Ruby and Sapphire. Any rod works, even the Old Rod, but those 6 tiles move every time you change the trendy phrase in Dewford Town. Feebas turns up around level 20, and even on a correct tile each cast bites only about half the time.
No. Feebas only evolves into Milotic through a real trade. There is no in-game alternative in Ruby & Sapphire. Trade needs a Game Boy Advance link cable and a second GBA running another Gen 3 game (FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald). Trade Feebas to a friend, then have them trade it back. The 2026 Switch re-release supports the same trade through local wireless on the Pokemon Center 2F Wireless Club, with no cables required. The Prism Scale must be held during the trade. Bring one over from a sibling Gen 3 game if needed.
Game Availability
Available in 16 titles since its debut in Ruby & Sapphire, Feebas spans 7 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in most mainline games.
