Emerald Route 118
A breezy coastal route split by a river too wide to walk. A fisherman here hands over the Good Rod, and Surf carries you across to the road north toward Fortree.
Route 118 is in Hoenn, with Route 123 to the east and Mauville City to the west. In the story it comes after New Mauville and continues north to Route 119.

Surf is the only crossing on Route 118, where a broad river inlet splits the route toward Mauville and Fortree. On land, one-way ledges decide which way you can walk, so line up your path before you hop down.

Pokemon Encounters
On the riverbank of Route 118, Electrike and grown Manectric both range the grass, and the Super Rod lands Carvanha at 60% for a future Sharpedo. Kecleon also turns up in that same grass, though only as a 1% encounter.

The Good Rod is the pickup on Route 118, the mid-tier rod that opens better fishing across Hoenn. A Heart Scale and an Iron lie along the riverbank for a careful search.

The TV duo Gabby and Ty film another battle on the Route 118 riverbank, joined by Fishermen and Bird Keepers whose teams top out at level 26, none a real threat to a leveled party.

No, and losing that split is a real perk. On one Emerald cartridge you can raise both Zangoose and Seviper, both halves of every version pair, with nothing to trade and no version column to check. A few species that skipped Ruby and Sapphire show up here too.
You'll want all of them. The three rods pull different fished species as you trade up from Old to Good to Super, Surf opens the surface water where Wingull and Sharpedo swim, and Dive reaches the underwater seaweed on Routes 124 to 126 where Clamperl and Relicanth live. Dive comes from the Mossdeep gym.
