Graveler handles plenty at D-Tier in Emerald on its own, but trade evolution into Golem unlocks Explosion and Rock Head. Worth finding a trade partner.

Is Graveler Good in Emerald Playthrough?

Graveler with AbilityRock Head hits hard without recoil. Electric immunity handles Wattson and Rock coverage beats Winona. Trade evolves into Golem, but Graveler holds up through mid-game alone. The 4x Water weakness is dangerous against Juan and Wallace's endgame.

How to Get Graveler in Emerald

Graveler shows up in only two late spots, smashing rocks in Victory Road and walking the Magma Aqua Hideout, levels 30 to 40. It is the deeper-cave version of Geodude, so a level-25 evolution is often faster.

Wild Graveler may be holding when caught:

Everstone (5% chance) A wondrous hold item that prevents evolution.

Both methods here share the same odds, about 1 in 8,192 on each try. Pick whichever fits how you play.

Breeding: Hatch eggs of this line; each egg rolls at the base shiny rate (no Masuda before Gen IV).

How is this calculated?

Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.

chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N,  where  p = 1 / odds per try

Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.

The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.

These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.

Where these shiny odds come from: Read our full methodology

For time estimates and charm math, open the Emerald shiny odds calculator with Graveler already selected.

Graveler Weakness

Graveler's Rock/Ground typing leaves it vulnerable to Water, Grass, Ice, Fighting, Ground, and Steel. Water and Grass hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Electric-type attacks completely. It resists 5 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Graveler's physical bulk (base 115 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Pokedex Entry

Graveler grows by feeding on rocks. Apparently, it prefers to eat rocks that are covered in moss. This Pokemon eats its way through a ton of rocks on a daily basis.

Pokemon Emerald

Graveler Emerald Guide

  • No. Graveler only evolves into Golem through a real trade. There is no in-game alternative in Emerald. Trade needs a Game Boy Advance link cable and a second GBA running another Gen 3 game (FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald). Trade Graveler to a friend, then have them trade it back. The 2026 Switch re-release supports the same trade through local wireless on the Pokemon Center 2F Wireless Club, with no cables required.

  • Yes. Wild Graveler in Emerald can hold Everstone (5%). Use Thief (TM46) or Covet to swipe the held item without affecting your catch chance. Quickest way to farm rare items like Everstone.

  • In Emerald, Graveler does the job early-game if you need a Rock/Ground type on your team. Evolve it into Golem before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.

  • In Emerald, use Graveler as a trick room. Physical side carries the damage. It's slow, so Trick Room or priority moves are key. Earthquake is the primary attack.

  • For Emerald, run Adamant on Graveler. +Attack is what matters, and the -Sp. Atk cut doesn't hurt this set. Fits the trick room role.

Game Availability

Graveler first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 20 games across 9 generations. It later gained an Alolan form in Generation 7, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
