In Emerald, Ponyta has 410 BST and evolves into Rapidash. Compare the two forms before you give either one a team slot.
In Emerald, use Ponyta as a pivot. Special attacks are the main output. Speed is middling, Set up with Agility when you get a free turn.
For Emerald, run Modest on Ponyta. +Sp. Atk is what matters, and the -Attack cut doesn't hurt this set. Fits the pivot role.
