Water/Ice with AbilityThick Fat cutting Fire and Ice damage in half. Dewgong handles Drake's Dragon E4 and contributes against Sidney. The Ice coverage is exactly what Emerald's endgame asks for. Not the hardest hitter, but the typing and bulk get it done.

How to Get Dewgong in Emerald
No wild Dewgong swims in Emerald. An imported Seel reaches it at level 34, the only path to the evolved seal. Local water never produces one.

How to Get Shiny Dewgong in Emerald
Dewgong is another Kanto import; both FireRed and LeafGreen tuck it into Icefall Cave and the Seafoam Islands, so land the shimmer there, or evolve a shiny Seel, then send the seal lion across to Hoenn. See every game where Shiny Dewgong can be hunted
Dewgong Weakness
Dewgong's Water/Ice typing leaves it vulnerable to Electric, Grass, Fighting, and Rock. Thick Fat reduces Fire/Ice damage, further improving the defensive spread.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass, Fighting, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Ice |

Dewgong is the evolved form of Seel. Breeding produces Seel eggs, and they take an average time to hatch. Evolving from Seel gave Dewgong the biggest boost in HP (+25), bringing the total to 475 stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Dewgong to get Seel eggs easily using 102 partners from the Field and Water 1 egg groups. Notable egg moves include Disable, Encore, Fake Out and 5 more.
E Dewgong Best Moveset
Dewgong counters Fire and Ice attackers that other Water-types fear, thanks to AbilityThick Fat halving damage from both types. The moveset combines MoveSurf and MoveIce Beam for coverage with MoveRest and MoveSleep Talk to outlast opponents. Teams needing a bulky answer to mixed Fire/Ice threats find value here.

It loves to snooze on bitterly cold ice. The sight of this POKéMON sleeping on a glacier was mistakenly thought to be a mermaid by a mariner long ago.
Dewgong Emerald Guide
In Emerald, use Dewgong as a balanced. Special attacks are the main output. Speed is middling, Surf is the primary attack.
For Emerald, run Adamant on Dewgong. +Attack is what matters, and the -Sp. Atk cut doesn't hurt this set. Fits the balanced role.
Dewgong isn't catchable in Emerald. Catch one in FireRed or LeafGreen, then trade it to Emerald.
Game Availability
Dewgong has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 19 titles across all 9 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
