How to Get Ampharos in Emerald
Flaaffy evolves into Ampharos at level 30, the top of a line you start with a single Safari Zone Mareep. The glowing tail never appears in the wild, so that one early catch carries the whole way up.
Catch Mareep at any of these 2 spots to eventually evolve into Ampharos.

How to Get Shiny Ampharos in Emerald
Ampharos sits at the end of the line, so catch a shiny Mareep in the Safari Zone, evolve it to Flaaffy at level fifteen, then push on to level thirty for a gleaming Ampharos. Compare Shiny Ampharos odds across every game

2 MethodsBoth methods here share the same odds, about 1 in 8,192 on each try. Pick whichever fits how you play.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
Breeding: Hatch eggs of this line; each egg rolls at the base shiny rate (no Masuda before Gen IV).
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 864-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 2,357-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 5,678-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 18,862-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.

Ampharos Weakness
Ground moves hit Ampharos for super-effective damage. Few weaknesses and 3 resistances make the typing clean. With 90 HP and balanced defenses, Ampharos can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Electric, Flying, Steel |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet

GoodAmpharos Evolutions
End of the line. Ampharos caps a three-stage chain that started at Mareep. Breeding produces the base form, and eggs take an average time to hatch. Sp.Atk grew the most through evolution (+50 over Mareep), and Ampharos peaks at 500 total stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Ampharos to get Mareep eggs easily using 102 partners from the Field and Monster egg groups. Notable egg moves include Body Slam, Charge, Odor Sleuth and 4 more.
E Ampharos Best Moveset
Ampharos trades Speed for raw special power, with 115 Sp. Atk delivering MoveThunderbolt harder than any non-legendary Electric-type. The moveset compensates for 55 Speed through MoveThunder Wave to slow faster threats and AbilityStatic to punish physical contact. Teams that can protect Ampharos from Ground coverage benefit from its unmatched Electric output.

Ampharos Emerald Guide
Mega Evolution isn't available in Emerald, but Ampharos does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Ampharos hits 600 BST.
In Emerald, use Ampharos as a wallbreaker. Special attacks are the main output. Not the fastest, Thunderbolt is the primary attack.
For Emerald, run Mild on Ampharos. +Sp. Atk is what matters, and the -Defense cut doesn't hurt this set. Fits the wallbreaker role.
Game Availability
Since debuting in Gold & Silver, Ampharos has appeared in 17 titles over 8 generations. Along the way, it received a Mega form in Generation 6, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
