How to Get Vibrava in Emerald
A Trapinch dug up from the Route 111 desert evolves into Vibrava at level 35. The buzzing middle stage skips the wild entirely in Emerald, so raising that sand catch is the lone way the dragon line moves forward.
Catch Trapinch at any of these 2 spots to eventually evolve into Vibrava.
Encountered via tall grass encounters
How to Obtain Vibrava in E
To get Vibrava, start by catching Trapinch through walking encounters at Lv. 19-24. The chain covers 1 catchable stage before reaching the final form.
How to Get Shiny Vibrava in Emerald
Vibrava evolves up from Trapinch, so hunt a shiny Trapinch out on the Route 111 desert first, then level it to 35 and the shine carries straight into its Vibrava form. Compare Shiny Vibrava odds across every game
Emerald Shiny Vibrava Calculator
2 MethodsBoth methods here share the same odds, about 1 in 8,192 on each try. Pick whichever fits how you play.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
Breeding: Hatch eggs of this line; each egg rolls at the base shiny rate (no Masuda before Gen IV).
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 864-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 2,357-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 5,678-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 18,862-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.

Vibrava Weakness
Ice and Dragon moves hit Vibrava for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Electric-type moves can't touch it at all. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ice |
| 2x (Weak) | Dragon |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Poison, Rock |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move

Vibrava Evolutions
Vibrava sits between Trapinch and Flygon in this three-stage line. Not the final form yet. For breeding, average hatch time with a decent partner pool via two egg groups. So far, Speed got the biggest boost (+60 from Trapinch). The final form adds another 180 stats on top. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Vibrava to get Trapinch eggs easily using 37 partners from the Bug and Dragon egg groups. Notable egg moves include Focus Energy, Gust, Quick Attack.
E Vibrava Best Moveset
Ground immunity from AbilityLevitate on a Ground/Dragon type is nice, but Vibrava's stats drop from Trapinch's focused Attack to mediocre across the board. The moveset should focus on leveling toward Flygon.

Moves List
Don't skip the egg moves. Vibrava picks up Focus Energy and Gust only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Earthquake and Dig while coverage across 7 types adds range.

Vibrava Emerald Guide
In Emerald, for a casual playthrough, Vibrava works as a placeholder. Ground/Dragon coverage is useful early. The real payoff is Flygon. That's where the stats start mattering.
Game Availability
Debuting in Ruby & Sapphire, Vibrava appears in 15 games across 7 generations. A reliable presence in most mainline games, typically found through catching or hatching as a base form.
