Finding and evolving Feebas is the hard part. The Pokemon itself is one of Emerald's absolute best. The Champion picked it for a reason.

How to Get Milotic in Emerald
Milotic has no wild encounters. It evolves from Feebas, but not by level: you raise the fish's Beauty past 170 with blue Pokeblocks, then level it once. Tracking down Feebas first makes this the hardest evolution in the game.
Catch Feebas at any of these 1 spot to eventually evolve into Milotic.

How to Get Shiny Milotic in Emerald
Milotic blooms out of Feebas, so hook a shiny Feebas from its scattered Route 119 tiles first, then max its Beauty with Blue Pokeblocks and level it once to bring out a shiny Milotic. Compare Shiny Milotic odds across every game
Emerald Shiny Milotic Calculator
2 MethodsBoth methods here share the same odds, about 1 in 8,192 on each try. Pick whichever fits how you play.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
Breeding: Hatch eggs of this line; each egg rolls at the base shiny rate (no Masuda before Gen IV).
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 864-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 2,357-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 5,678-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 18,862-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.
Planning a longer hunt? Set up Milotic in the Emerald Shiny Odds Calculator to compare every method side by side.
Milotic Weakness
Type-wise, Milotic takes extra damage from Electric and Grass. The Water typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Milotic's special bulk (base 125 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Steel |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet

Milotic Emerald Guide
Milotic is obtained by trade-evolving Feebas. Catch a Feebas first, then trade. Trade needs a Game Boy Advance link cable and a second GBA running another Gen 3 game (FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald). Trade Feebas to a friend, then have them trade it back. The 2026 Switch re-release supports the same trade through local wireless on the Pokemon Center 2F Wireless Club, with no cables required. The Prism Scale must be held during the trade. Bring one over from a sibling Gen 3 game if needed.
In Emerald, Milotic plays as a support. Speed is middling, so pick your spots carefully. Surf is the primary attack.
In Emerald, Bold is the go-to nature for Milotic. That's +Defense / -Attack. Pair it with 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA EVs. Fits the support role.
Game Availability
Debuting in Ruby & Sapphire, Milotic appears in 16 games across 7 generations. A reliable presence in most mainline games, typically found through wild encounters.
