How to Get Bagon in Emerald
Bagon lurks deep in Meteor Falls, a common level 25 to 35 catch in the back chambers you can only reach after Surf and Waterfall. The rock-headed dragon stays behind that gate, so the start of the Salamence line is a late-game affair.
Wild Bagon may be holding when caught:

How to Get Shiny Bagon in Emerald
Bagon broods in the deepest chamber of Meteor Falls, past the waterfall where it counts as a common find; reach that back room, then battle every one you meet until the would-be dragon appears in shiny blue. Compare Shiny Bagon odds across every game
Emerald Shiny Bagon Calculator
2 MethodsBoth methods here share the same odds, about 1 in 8,192 on each try. Pick whichever fits how you play.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
Breeding: Hatch eggs of this line; each egg rolls at the base shiny rate (no Masuda before Gen IV).
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 864-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 2,357-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 5,678-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 18,862-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.
Planning a longer hunt? Set up Bagon in the Emerald Shiny Odds Calculator to compare every method side by side.
Bagon Weakness
Bagon's Dragon typing leaves it vulnerable to Ice and Dragon. The Dragon typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Bagon's physical bulk (base 60 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ice, Dragon |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Electric, Grass |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move

Bagon Evolutions
Bagon kicks off a three-stage evolution line through Shelgon all the way to Salamence. For breeding, takes forever to hatch with a decent partner pool via one egg group. The evolved forms gain up to 300 total stats over Bagon. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed Bagon with 27 breeding partners from the Dragon egg group. Pass egg moves like Dragon Dance, Dragon Rage, Hydro Pump and 2 more to offspring.
E Bagon Best Moveset
Recoil-free attacks through AbilityRock Head are a preview of Salamence's power, but Bagon's stats are too low for competitive play. The moveset should focus on physical Dragon moves while building toward Shelgon.

Bagon Emerald Guide
Yes. Wild Bagon in Emerald can hold Dragon Scale (5%). Use Thief (TM46) or Covet to swipe the held item without affecting your catch chance. Quickest way to farm rare items like Dragon Scale.
In Emerald, for a casual playthrough, Bagon works as a placeholder. Dragon coverage is useful early. The real payoff is Shelgon. That's where the stats start mattering.
Game Availability
Debuting in Ruby & Sapphire, Bagon appears in 16 games across 7 generations. A reliable presence in most mainline games, typically found through catching or hatching as a base form.
