Red & Blue Map Locations

Red and Blue introduced the Kanto map every later Pokemon game evolved from. The Safari Zone's block-encounter system here is unique to the original generation, and version-exclusives like Mankey and Growlithe still need a trade to complete the Pokedex.

RED & BLUE MAP

Pan across Kanto's overworld map and click any marker to load that location's encounter and trainer list. The Pokemon Mansion ruins on Cinnabar Island hide the Mew origin notes scattered across three burned-out floors.

RED & BLUE LOCATIONS

Filter Red and Blue's 60 locations by encounter method or type, or start at Pallet Town and walk the chapter cards in story order. Silph Co. in Saffron City stages the Team Rocket boss fight that hands you a free Lapras once you've cleared the teleporter-puzzle floors.

FAQ
  • Same Kanto map as FRLG: Viridian Forest through Mt. Moon to Rock Tunnel, then Pokemon Tower, Silph Co., and Safari Zone before Cinnabar. Red and Blue have no Sevii Islands, so the game ends at the Indigo Plateau and Cerulean Cave. Fewer overall locations than FireRed and LeafGreen but the route is identical.

  • Each version has 8 species that only appear in wild encounters there. Red gets Ekans, Arbok, Oddish, Gloom, Growlithe, Mankey, Scyther, and Electabuzz. Blue gets Sandshrew, Sandslash, Vulpix, Meowth, Bellsprout, Weepinbell, Magmar, and Pinsir. Most show up on the early-to-mid routes and in the Safari Zone.

  • No. Red and Blue have no in-game clock. Encounters are the same regardless of when you play. Time-based encounters started in Gold and Silver. Every Pokemon listed in a location's encounter table is always available.

  • Victory Road has the highest pre-E4 wild levels (around 40-48). For postgame, Cerulean Cave goes up to level 70 and has high-EXP species. There's no VS Seeker in Red and Blue, so trainer rematches aren't an option. You're stuck with wild encounters for grinding after clearing all trainers.

  • Red & Blue has 47 locations with wild Pokemon encounters, featuring 114 unique Pokemon species. The location with the most Pokemon variety is Cerulean Cave with 24 unique species.

  • Red & Blue has 4 legendary encounters: Articuno (Lv. 50 at Seafoam Islands), Zapdos (Lv. 50 at Power Plant), Moltres (Lv. 50 at Victory Road), Mewtwo (Lv. 70 at Cerulean Cave).

  • The top fishing locations in Red & Blue by Pokemon variety are: Route 23 (7 species), Safari Zone (7 species), Cerulean Cave (7 species). These locations offer the widest selection of water-type Pokemon through various rod types (Old Rod, Good Rod, Super Rod).
