The watery crossing between Cinnabar Island and Pallet Town, half tall grass and half open sea full of Tentacool and Swimmers.
Route 21 is in Kanto, with Pallet Town to the north and Cinnabar Island to the south. In the story it comes after Pokémon Mansion and before Cinnabar Gym.

- Climb onto the bank east of the channel if you want the only tall grass on the route.

- Below the islet to the southeast, a Swimmer battles you with a Seadra and a Tentacruel once you enter the water north of him.

- Head southeast to the second islet and face the Fisherman at its west end and the Fisherman at its east end.
- Leave the islet from its south side to face the Swimmer floating just below it with a lone Starmie.
- Farther south a Swimmer battles you with a Staryu and a Wartortle if you swim into the water east of him.
- Across from him on the east side, another Swimmer battles you with a Poliwhirl, a Tentacool and a Seadra.
- Pass through the gap neither of them watches and keep heading south until you walk ashore on Cinnabar Island.

Tangela hides in the grass at 10%, and this crossing between Cinnabar and Pallet is the only easy place to find one. Pidgeotto and Raticate share the land while Tentacool blankets the surf.

Yes. Each version locks away a handful of route species. Ekans, Oddish, Mankey, and Growlithe stay in Red, while Sandshrew, Bellsprout, Meowth, and Vulpix belong to Blue, with Scyther and Pinsir split the same way. Trading with the other version is the only way to fill those gaps.
