Vermilion City is in Kanto, with Route 11 to the east and the entrance to Vermilion Gym. In the story you arrive from Route 6 to the north and continue through its entrance to S.S. Anne.

- Arrive in Vermilion City from Route 6 and visit the Poke Mart on the main street, the first shop selling Super Potions and Ice Heals.
- Take the east boardwalk down to the harbor, show the gangway sailor your ship ticket and board the S.S. Anne, whose captain gives you HM01 CutMoveCutNormalClassPhysicalPower50Accuracy95%PP30Cuts using claws, scythes, etc..
- Back ashore, cut down the lone tree south of the main street to open the path to the Vermilion Gym door.

Pokemon Fan Club
- Step into the Pokemon Fan Club, the westernmost door on the main street, and walk up to the chairman at the back.
- Hear the story through to receive the Bike VoucherBike VoucherReceived from the Pokémon Fan Club Chairman, which the Cerulean bike shop exchanges for a Bicycle.
Bike VoucherFishing Guru's House
- Enter the Fishing Guru's House by its door in the northwest corner of the city, where the Fishing Guru waits.
- Answer yes when he asks if you like to fish and accept the Old RodOld RodReceived from the Fishing Guru he hands you, then head east out of the city to Route 11.

Not by walking. City streets never spawn an encounter. Where a town touches water, though, Surfing or fishing turns up Pokemon, like off the Vermilion docks or along the Cinnabar shore. The list on this page shows what each city's water holds.
No. These games have no rematch system at all, so once you beat a Leader or a trainer that fight is finished for good. There's no farming the same opponents for cash or experience. Wild Pokemon and the Elite Four, which you can re-challenge, are your only repeatable battles.
