Red & Blue Route 2
A short road bordering Viridian Forest where a house trade swaps your Abra for the hard-to-find Mr. Mime.
Route 2 is in Kanto, with Pewter City to the north and the entrance to Diglett's Cave. In the story you arrive from Viridian City to the south and continue through its entrance to Viridian Forest.
ROUTE 2 MAP
This short road borders Viridian Forest, fenced into separate strips. Cut clears a tree onto the eastern side, and Diglett's Cave opens a back way onto it.
Pokemon Encounters
Route 2 hugs Viridian Forest, so it is mostly bugs, Caterpie in Blue and Weedle in Red over a base of Rattata and Pidgey, with nothing rare worth a special trip.
Mr. Mime
ITEMS
A Moon Stone waits on Route 2, well worth saving for Clefairy or a Nidoran, with an HP Up tucked behind a Cut tree.
HP Up
Raises HP effort and happiness.

Moon Stone
Evolves a Nidorina into Nidoqueen, a Nidorino into Nidoking, a Clefairy into Clefable, or a Jigglypuff into Wigglytuff.
Route 2 Guide
Yes. Each version locks away a handful of route species. Ekans, Oddish, Mankey, and Growlithe stay in Red, while Sandshrew, Bellsprout, Meowth, and Vulpix belong to Blue, with Scyther and Pinsir split the same way. Trading with the other version is the only way to fill those gaps.
Three rods, three givers. A fisherman in Vermilion City hands over the Old Rod, which only ever hooks Magikarp. The Good Rod comes from a fishing fan in Fuchsia City and adds Poliwag, Goldeen, and other common catches. The Super Rod, waiting on Route 12, reaches the rod-only rarities listed here.
