Crystal Union Cave
This damp cave links Routes 32 and 33, but trainers come for the lone Lapras that rises from its lower chamber on Fridays.
Union Cave is in Johto, with Route 32 to the north. In the story it comes after Ruins of Alph and continues south to Route 33.
UNION CAVE MAP
Three stacked levels make up Union Cave on the road south, and the flooded lowest floor only opens to a Pokemon that can Surf. The upper two are a plain walk.
Pokemon Encounters
Union Cave is a layered tunnel of Zubat, Geodude, and Onix, with Wooper and Quagsire wading the lower water at night. Friday nights add the real draw, a lone Lapras swimming the basement at level 20.

Union Cave gives up TM39 Swift, an attack that never misses, along with an Elixir and a pair of X items for stat boosts in a pinch. Healing balls fill the side tunnels.

Union Cave runs twelve deep with Hikers, Firebreathers, and PokeManiacs climbing toward level 28. The back-to-back battles drain your PP more than any single team threatens.

Mt. Mortar is the big change. Its halls were dark in Gold and Silver, but Crystal brightened them, so Flash is no longer needed to get through. Two caves still go pitch black, Dark Cave and Kanto's Rock Tunnel, and the move only works outdoors once you hold the Zephyr Badge.
