How to find and battle Roark in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Roark is Oreburgh City's Gym Leader who uses Rock type Pokemon, and defeating him will give you the Coal Badge, allowing you to use Rock Smash outside of battle.

Location: Oreburgh Mine

  1. Travel to Oreburgh City.
  2. Once in Oreburgh, speak to your Rival infront of the gym- he will tell you the Gym Leader has gone to the mines.
  3. From here you go to Oreburgh Mine, which is located in the far south part of town.
  4. Inside Oreburgh Mine, go down the stairs and through the first doorway.
  5. Following the path to your left, you will find some items and encounter Roark- speaking to him will have him show you how the HM Rock Smash works and make his leave back to the gym.

Below are the steps required to make it through Oreburgh City's gym, where you will encounter Roark at the end.

  1. Go to Oreburgh City.
  2. Enter the Oreburgh Gym located in the middle west of town.
  3. Stepping through the front doors of the gym, you have two options; either go straight ahead and fight two trainers or walk around them by going up the stairs to your left.

Gym Leaders can be rematched after defeating the Elite Four, Champion Cynthia, and obtaining the National Pokedex. You can also challenge the Leaders once every day; their teams will be much stronger, sporting new Pokemon and higher levels.
