Weezing Best Moveset
120 Defense on Poison with AbilityLevitate blocking Ground and AbilityNeutralizing Gas shutting down every ability on the field. Held ItemBlack Sludge heals passively. NatureModest at 85 Sp. Atk gives the moveset actual offensive output. Tera Poison removes all secondary weaknesses. The moveset walls physical attackers and controls the field through ability suppression.
Pure Poison was bad typing in Gen I (Red & Blue). Psychic-types dominated, and Weezing's Explosion couldn't make up for having no useful STAB or resistances.
Utility Moveset
- Explosion
- Sludge
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
Recommended Teammates
120 Defense and Sludge Bomb as reliable Poison STAB in Gen II (Gold & Silver). Haze shut down stat boosters, giving Weezing a real defensive niche.
Utility Moveset
- Sludge Bomb
- Explosion
- Fire Blast
- Thief
Recommended Teammates
Levitate removed its Ground weakness entirely in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). Only Psychic could threaten it, and 120 Defense walled physical attackers that other Poison-types couldn't handle.

Will-O-Wisp completed the package in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). Levitate, 120 Defense, burn to halve Attack, and Pain Split for recovery. A premier physical wall.
Wall Moveset
- Will O Wisp
- Flamethrower
- Pain Split

Power creep hit in Gen V (Black & White). 85 Sp. Atk wasn't threatening enough offensively, and special attackers exploited the lower Sp. Def.
Special Tank Moveset
- Will O Wisp
- Sludge Bomb
- Fire Blast
- Pain Split
Recommended Teammates
No new tools in Gen VI (X & Y). Weezing was still a solid physical wall but the metagame demanded more offensive presence.
Wall Moveset
- Will O Wisp
- Flamethrower
- Toxic
- Sludge Bomb
Recommended Teammates
Three gens of stagnation in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Weezing hadn't gained anything meaningful since Will-O-Wisp and the format kept evolving past it.
Wall Moveset
- Will O Wisp
- Flamethrower
- Pain Split
- Clear Smog
Recommended Teammates
Galarian Weezing with Neutralizing Gas stole the spotlight in Gen VIII (Sword & Shield). The original was outclassed by its own regional variant.
Special Tank Moveset
- Sludge Bomb
- Will O Wisp
- Flamethrower
- Toxic Spikes
Recommended Teammates
Still overshadowed by the Galarian form in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet). Regular Weezing had nothing left to offer that its variant didn't do better.

Weezing Weakness
Type-wise, Weezing takes extra damage from Ground and Psychic. The Poison typing picks up 5 resistances to work with. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Weezing's physical bulk (base 120 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ground, Psychic |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Grass, Fighting, Poison, Bug, Fairy |

This Pokémon consumes particles that contaminate the air. Instead of leaving droppings, it expels clean air.
Weezing Guide
Weezing looks average on paper at 490 BST. But Levitate is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. C-Tier on our tier list.
Weezing gets Levitate, Neutralizing Gas, and Stench. But Levitate is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.
Weezing is a special attacker with base 85 Sp. Atk. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 60 Speed, it won't be moving first often.
The core moveset is Will O Wisp, Painsplit, Sludge Bomb, and Flamethrower. Will O Wisp leads at 0% usage. This set covers the balanced role with a mix of damage and utility.
Game Availability
Available since Red & Blue, Weezing appears in 20 games spanning 10 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Galarian form in Generation 8.
