Marowak Weakness
Water, Grass, and Ice moves hit Marowak for super-effective damage. The upside? Electric-type moves can't touch it at all. Marowak's physical bulk (base 110 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Grass, Ice |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Poison, Rock |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

Ground TermStab from MoveEarthquake gives Marowak one clear job and the 80 Attack to do it adequately. Handles Electric and Rock targets without pretending to do anything else. Slower than Dugtrio and weaker than Rhydon at the same role, but the Ground coverage works.

Moves List
Without TMs, Marowak's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Normal and Ice coverage and more on top of Earthquake and Dig for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Marowak Yellow Guide
- Where in the Yellow Safari Zone can I find Marowak?
See the Locations section above for where to find Marowak in Yellow.
Safari rules: You can only use Safari Balls. No battling. Two tactical items shift the catch/flee trade-off:
- Throw bait to keep Marowak from fleeing (flee rate cut to 1/4) but it becomes harder to catch (catch factor halved).
- Throw a rock to make Marowak easier to catch (catch factor doubled) but it flees twice as often.
- Each effect lasts 2-6 random turns; throwing one cancels the other.
In Yellow, Marowak has niche appeal at best. The D-Tier rating means you're fighting uphill by mid-game. There are better Ground Pokemon available.
Marowak has an Alolan form that swaps the typing and reshuffles the stats. Introduced in Gen 7. Worth checking if the original version doesn't fit your team.
In Yellow, use Marowak as a balanced. Physical side carries the damage. Not the fastest, Earthquake is the primary attack.
Game Availability
Marowak first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 20 games across 9 generations. It later gained an Alolan form in Generation 7, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
