The Lass in the grassy pocket west of the entrance never calls you over, so her battle starts only when you walk up and talk to her.
  1. From the south entrance, walk north to the lone tree, then west through the grass to battle the LassLass₱90Nidoran♀ (female)Lv 6Nidoran♂ (male)Lv 6Weak toGroundPsychicBug and her two Nidoran.
  2. Head back east along the clearing and turn north up the wide grassy column on the east side of the forest.
  3. Two side paths branch east off the column, each with a Bug Catcher facing it; keep to the column's east edge and both battle you.
2
Nobody reaches the north gate without fighting the last Bug Catcher, who fills half of the far west lane and watches its only open square.
  1. At the top of the column, go west along the upper path, then south down the next grassy lane to a gap on its west side.
  2. Cross the gap in front of the Bug Catcher who faces east into it, and he battles you.
  3. Beyond him, climb north up the grassy lane, go west along the top edge, then south down the long lane to the western clearing.
  4. Turn north up the far west lane, where the Bug Catcher battles you with a lone Caterpie.
  5. Past him, the lane runs north to the gate building; go through it to leave Viridian Forest.

Pokemon Encounters

Unlike Red and Blue, there is no wild Pikachu here in Yellow, and the Weedle line is gone too. What is left is a quiet Caterpie at 50 percent and Metapod at 25 percent, with Pidgey overhead and a rare 1 percent Pidgeotto. The forest is a calm warm-up before Pewter.

Viridian Forest Guide

  • No, and it catches people off guard. In Red and Blue this forest is the classic Pikachu spot, but Yellow removes it entirely. The wild list here is Caterpie, Metapod, Pidgey, and a rare Pidgeotto. Your only Pikachu comes from Professor Oak back in Pallet Town, so don't waste time combing the grass for one.

  • Early levels and a few hidden Poke Balls make it worth a quick pass. The bug Pokemon and trainers are gentle practice for your new Pikachu before Brock in Pewter. Nothing rare lives here, so don't linger.
