The start of the Golem line. Geodude is tough physically but one Water or Grass move ends it. Graveler is usable without trading, though Golem needs a trade partner to reach.

Geodude Weakness

Type-wise, Geodude takes extra damage from Water, Grass, Ice, Fighting, and Ground. Watch out for Water and Grass attacks, those deal 4x damage. Electric moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. The Rock/Ground typing picks up 5 resistances to work with. Geodude's physical bulk (base 100 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Moves List

Most of Geodude's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Earthquake and Dig, but Normal and Fighting and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

Pokemon Yellow

Geodude Yellow Guide

  • In Yellow, for a casual playthrough, Geodude works as a placeholder. Rock/Ground coverage is useful early. The real payoff is Graveler. That's where the stats start mattering.

  • Yes. Alolan Geodude is a regional variant with different typing and a reworked stat spread. Introduced in Gen 7. Plays completely differently from the original.

Game Availability

Available since Red & Blue, Geodude appears in 20 games spanning 9 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained an Alolan form in Generation 7.
