Is Dugtrio Good in Yellow Playthrough?
One of the fastest Pokemon in the game, and Ground-type attacks handle Surge, Blaine, and Giovanni. Dugtrio solves specific fights instantly. The problem is everything else: it folds to any hit that actually connects. Bring it for the right matchup, switch out for everything else.

Dugtrio Weakness
Dugtrio's Ground typing leaves it vulnerable to Water, Grass, and Ice. It shrugs off Electric-type attacks completely. At base 120 Speed, Dugtrio outspeeds most threats and doesn't need to tank what it can outrun.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Grass, Ice |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Poison, Rock |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

Y Dugtrio Best Moveset
Second-fastest Pokemon in the format at 120 Speed, outpacing everything except Electrode. MoveEarthquake from 80 Attack picks off weakened targets, and Ground typing catches Electric and Rock threats on the switch. Paper-thin defenses mean one bad prediction ends the run, but the Speed tier rarely allows it.

Moves List
Without TMs, Dugtrio's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Normal and Rock coverage on top of Earthquake and Dig for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Dugtrio Yellow Guide
Trade a Lickitung to the boy on the upper floor of the Route 11 gate east of Vermilion City to get a Dugtrio nicknamed GURIO. This is an NPC trade, so the Dugtrio you receive is yours immediately, no transfer cable needed.
For Yellow, go for it. Dugtrio rates A-Tier, and its Ground typing handles most of what the story throws at you.
Dugtrio has an Alolan form that swaps the typing and reshuffles the stats. Introduced in Gen 7. Worth checking if the original version doesn't fit your team.
In Yellow, use Dugtrio as a pivot. Physical side carries the damage. It outspeeds most threats, Earthquake is the primary attack.
Game Availability
Dugtrio first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 20 games across 9 generations. It later gained an Alolan form in Generation 7, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
