Omanyte Weakness
Type-wise, Omanyte takes extra damage from Grass, Electric, Fighting, and Ground. Watch out for Grass attacks, those deal 4x damage. It resists 5 types, giving it decent defensive coverage.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Grass |
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Fighting, Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Ice, Poison, Flying |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Fire |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

Omanyte Yellow Guide
Revive the Helix Fossil at the Pokemon Lab on Cinnabar Island. The Helix Fossil is found at the end of Mt. Moon. Choose between it or the Dome Fossil.. Omanyte is revived at level 5. Give it Rare Candies or experience-share if you want it ready for the late-game. Note: this fossil is only available in Yellow. The other version of Yellow has a different fossil.
In Yellow, Omanyte does the job early-game if you need a Rock/Water type on your team. Evolve it into Omastar before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
In Yellow, Omanyte plays as a support. It's slow, so Trick Room or priority moves are key. so pick your spots carefully.
