Yellow Diglett's Cave

A narrow tunnel swarming with Diglett and Dugtrio, burrowing beneath the hills to link Route 11 and Route 2.

Diglett's Cave is in Kanto, with its entrance on Route 2. In the story you arrive from Route 11 through its entrance and it comes before Route 9.

DIGLETT'S CAVE MAP

One tunnel links the Route 2 and Route 11 ends, dipping to a single basement floor in between with the path running straight from mouth to mouth.

Your bike works everywhere in Diglett's Cave, and any step along the tunnel between its two ladders can start a wild battle.
  1. From the west end of Route 11, step into the small cave building and take its ladder down to the tunnel.
  2. The tunnel is a single passage that zigzags west and north from the southeast ladder, widening in places but never splitting.
  3. No trainer, item or hidden item lies along it, so keep heading northwest until you reach the ladder in the far corner.
  4. Climb it into the Route 2 side building and walk out its door onto the north end of Route 2.

Pokemon Encounters

Catch a Diglett here and you have the cleanest counter to Lt. Surge's Electric Gym back in Vermilion, since Ground shrugs off every Electric move. The tunnel is almost wall-to-wall Diglett from levels 15 to 22, broken only now and then by an evolved Dugtrio.

Diglett's Cave Guide

  • Save it for Rock Tunnel and skip it everywhere else. That's the one cave the game leaves unlit, and pushing through blind while Zubat swarm you is rough. No other cave is dark, so Flash is otherwise a wasted move slot. Grab HM05 from Oak's Aide and hand it to a benched Pokemon just before that descent.

  • There's only Victory Road. Cerulean Cave would be the other option, but it stays locked until you're Champion. Since you climb Victory Road on the way to the League anyway, a lap or two there doubles as a final tune-up.
