Diglett erupt from the floor of this stubby tunnel running between Vermilion and the foot of Pewter.

Diglett's Cave is in Kanto. In the story you arrive from Route 11 through its entrance and continue through its entrance to Route 2.

A lit, dead-straight tunnel links Route 2 with Route 11 and needs no Flash at all, though HeartGold and SoulSilver add fresh Rock Climb walls that peel off to side ledges.

On foot you cross Diglett's Cave in one walk between two ladders, and the first of them waits in the Route 11 side room.

Walk in from Route 11 and climb down that ladder to the southeast end of the tunnel.
At the bottom, set off north along the open tunnel floor.

Return with HM08 Rock Climb and the Earth Badge to collect PP Max, Rock Incense and a hidden Calcium off the ledges.

A visiting gym leader then trades a Rhyhorn for your Bonsly once you take his number.

Follow the passage north, then turn west toward the bridge that spans the tunnel.
On the lower level, check the rock just to the right of the overhanging north-south bridge for the hidden Max Revive before you pass beneath it.
Pass under the bridge and keep heading north to the far ladder in the northwest, which climbs into the Route 2 side room.
Walk out through the door of that room onto Route 2 to finish the crossing.
