How to Get Shiny Typhlosion in Emerald
Typhlosion appears only through evolution, so secure a shiny Cyndaquil by soft-resetting the Littleroot Town gift, raise it into Quilava, and evolve at level 36 keeping the shiny colors. Compare Shiny Typhlosion odds across every game
Emerald Shiny Typhlosion Calculator
2 MethodsBoth methods here share the same odds, about 1 in 8,192 on each try. Pick whichever fits how you play.
Soft Reset: Save in front of a static, gift, or legendary encounter, then reset until it sparkles.
Breeding: Hatch eggs of this line; each egg rolls at the base shiny rate (no Masuda before Gen IV).
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 864-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 2,357-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 5,678-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 18,862-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.

Typhlosion Evolutions
End of the line. Typhlosion caps a three-stage chain that started at Cyndaquil. Breeding produces the base form, and eggs take an average time to hatch. Sp.Atk grew the most through evolution (+49 over Cyndaquil), and Typhlosion peaks at 534 total stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Typhlosion to get Cyndaquil eggs using 102 partners from the Field egg group. Notable egg moves include Covet, Crush Claw, Foresight and 5 more.
E Typhlosion Best Moveset
Typhlosion competes for the best non-legendary Fire attacker slot, matching Charizard's 109/100 Sp. Atk and Speed without the crippling 4x Rock weakness. Pure Fire means the moveset only fears Water, Ground, and Rock coverage. MoveFlamethrower for reliable Fire TermStab and Thunderpunch for Water-type coverage both hit from the strong special side.

Without breeding, Typhlosion misses out on Covet and Crush Claw. That's 8 egg moves adding depth that the base kit lacks. STAB comes from Overheat and Fire Blast, with coverage across 7 types rounding things out.

Typhlosion Emerald Guide
Yes. Typhlosion is a post-game Pokemon. You need to defeat the Elite Four and enter the Hall of Fame first. Typhlosion becomes available after the main story is complete in Emerald.
In Emerald, use Typhlosion as a sweeper. Special attacks are the main output. It outspeeds most threats, Flamethrower is the primary attack.
Typhlosion has a Hisuian form that swaps the typing and reshuffles the stats. Introduced in Gen 8. Worth checking if the original version doesn't fit your team.
For Emerald, run Hasty on Typhlosion. +Speed is what matters, and the -Defense cut doesn't hurt this set. Fits the sweeper role.
Game Availability
Since debuting in Gold & Silver, Typhlosion has appeared in 17 titles over 8 generations. Along the way, it received a Hisuian form in Generation 8, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
