Typhlosion Best Moveset

109 Sp. Atk at 100 Speed on Fire with AbilityFlash Fire granting Fire immunity and boosting Fire damage. Held ItemChoice Scarf pushes Speed to outrun everything, and NatureTimid compounds the pace. The moveset fires special Fire TermStab and coverage moves locked to one choice. Tera Fire under Flash Fire boost makes the damage absurd.

109 Sp. Atk matched Charizard in Gen II (Gold & Silver). Pure Fire typing meant no 4x weaknesses, and Fire Blast hit hard before Stealth Rock existed to punish it.

Gen IV — Diamond, Pearl & PlatinumC

Stealth Rock showed up in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl) and directly nerfed Eruption. 25% HP lost on entry meant Eruption's power dropped before Typhlosion even attacked. Double penalty.

Typhlosion Guide

  • Flash Fire changes the entire equation for Typhlosion. The 534 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a sweeper.

  • Watch for Starmie (Water) and Golem (Ground) when using Typhlosion. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Rock-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Flash Fire is what you want on Typhlosion. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Blaze) work on paper but Flash Fire is what makes Typhlosion worth using. With base 100 Speed, Flash Fire gives Typhlosion an edge before opponents can react.

  • Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Typhlosion is a special attacker with base 109 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a sweeper.

  • Run Eruption, Scorching Sands, Flamethrower, and Focus Blast on Typhlosion. Eruption is the most common pick at 0% usage. Eruption provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Since debuting in Gold & Silver, Typhlosion has appeared in 17 titles over 9 generations. Along the way, it received a Hisuian form in Generation 8, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
