Jolteon Best Moveset
130 Speed and 110 Sp. Atk on Electric with AbilityVolt Absorb granting Electric immunity and healing. The moveset outspeeds nearly everything in the format and hits from the special side. 65 HP and 60 Defense mean one physical priority move ends it. Pure glass speed, but the pace forces reactions from everything slower.
130 Speed and 110 Special made Jolteon the premier Electric attacker in Gen I (Red & Blue). Thunderbolt hit hard and fast, and Thunder Wave crippled anything that survived.

Three gens at the top in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). Jolteon's Speed meant it outran almost everything, and Thunderbolt from 110 Sp. Atk was consistently threatening.

Choice Specs hit incredibly hard from 130 Speed in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). Hidden Power coverage patched up Thunderbolt's limited neutral reach.

Five consecutive gens at the highest level. Volt Switch arrived in Gen V (Black & White), giving Jolteon momentum on every switch. Perfect for offensive teams.

Dropped for the first time in Gen VI (X & Y). Mega Evolutions and new Electric-types with better coverage pushed Jolteon down. 65/60/95 defenses were paper-thin.

Same issues in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Fast and strong but couldn't take a single hit. One wrong prediction and Jolteon was gone.

130 Speed was no longer unique in Gen VIII (Sword & Shield), and 110 Sp. Atk was merely average. Power creep was catching up from both sides.

The decline was complete in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet). Faster Electric-types and better pivot options left Jolteon without a competitive role.

Jolteon Weakness
Jolteon's Electric typing leaves it vulnerable to Ground. Its Electric typing keeps the defensive matchups simple. Volt Absorb grants an additional Electric immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Jolteon's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Base Stats
Jolteon's built around special offense. Speed leads the charge, Defense pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 2 Speed EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
It concentrates the weak electric charges emitted by its cells and launches wicked lightning bolts.
Jolteon Guide
Don't let Jolteon's 525 base stat total fool you. Volt Absorb is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it B-Tier as a sweeper.
Watch for Rhydon (Ground) when using Jolteon. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
Run Volt Absorb on Jolteon. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Jolteon also gets Quick Feet, but they don't compare. With base 130 Speed, Volt Absorb gives Jolteon an edge before opponents can react.
Jolteon fills the sweeper role. It's a special attacker with base 110 Sp. Atk. Base 130 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Run Volt Switch, Thunderbolt, Alluringvoice, and Shadow Ball on Jolteon. Volt Switch is the most common pick at 0% usage. Thunderbolt provides reliable STAB damage.
Game Availability
