How to Get Jolteon in Platinum
Jolteon comes from giving an Eevee a Thunder Stone, with no wild version anywhere. The choice happens at the stone, so the only real step is securing an Eevee to evolve.
Catch Eevee at any of these 2 spots to eventually evolve into Jolteon.

How to Get Shiny Jolteon in Platinum
Jolteon takes a Thunder Stone, so chain an Eevee in the Trophy Garden to 40 for a 1 in 200 shiny, then evolve it. Compare Shiny Jolteon odds across every game
Platinum Shiny Jolteon Calculator
4 MethodsThe best route is PokeRadar Chain at full boosts, about 1 in 200 on each try. Tune it below.
PokeRadar Chain: Chain shaking-grass patches without breaking the combo. The rate peaks at a chain of 40.
Masuda Method: Breed with a parent from a different-language game. Works on any breedable line.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
Soft Reset: Save in front of a static, gift, or legendary encounter, then reset until it sparkles.
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 22-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 58-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 139-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 460-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.
Want exact numbers for your session? Calculate your shiny odds in Platinum with Jolteon preloaded.
Jolteon Weakness
Jolteon's Electric typing leaves it vulnerable to Ground. Its Electric typing keeps the defensive matchups simple. Volt Absorb grants an additional Electric immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Jolteon's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Electric, Flying, Steel |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)

Jolteon Evolutions
Out of 7 evolutions from Eevee, Jolteon comes from the Thunder Stone path. The method you use determines which form you end up with. Breed through Eevee to get eggs. Both Jolteon and Vaporeon hit 525 total stats from Eevee. The difference is how those stats are split. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Jolteon to get Eevee eggs (with patience) using 131 partners from the Field egg group. Notable egg moves include Charm, Covet, Curse and 6 more.
Pt Jolteon Best Moveset
130 Speed fires first against almost everything, but 65 HP and 60 Defense mean the moveset can't take a physical hit in return. 110 Sp. Atk powers special Electric attacks hard enough to justify the glass cannon trade-off.

Moves List
The natural movepool does the job, but Charm and Covet from the egg pool give Jolteon something extra. Pair those with Thunder and Thunderbolt for STAB and coverage across 7 types for reach, and the kit fills out nicely.

Jolteon Platinum Guide
In Platinum, use Jolteon as a sweeper. Special attacks are the main output. It outspeeds most threats, Thunderbolt is the primary attack.
For Platinum, run Timid on Jolteon. +Speed is what matters, and the -Attack cut doesn't hurt this set. Fits the sweeper role.
Game Availability
