Platinum Great Marsh

Pastoria's answer to the Safari Zone is a boggy sprawl of mud flats and rope-bridge towers. The usual battle rules go out the window, so come ready to chase Pokemon through the reeds.

Great Marsh is in Sinnoh. In the story you arrive from Pastoria City to the south and it comes before Route 212.

GREAT MARSH MAP

The Pastoria marsh divides into six fenced zones, joined by a little rail car that carries you from one to the next. Every trip runs on a step limit, so scanning the ground from the lookout before you set out saves wasted steps.

Pokemon Encounters

The Sinnoh Safari runs on a rotating cast, so what you see changes by the day. Carnivine, Skorupi, and Toxicroak headline the swampers, while rarer guests like Kangaskhan and Kecleon cycle through at 10 percent. Wooper is the constant, everywhere underfoot and in the water.

ITEMS

Most of the marsh rewards a Dowsing Machine sweep, turning up a Leaf Stone, a Rare Candy, and the Toxic Plate among the reeds. Safari Balls are the only way to catch here, so stock up at the gate.

Great Marsh Guide

  • The reward at the entrance changed. In Platinum the boy hands you Shards instead of HM05 Defog, which got moved to the Solaceon Ruins (and the Lost Tower gained fog to use it on). Platinum also rebalances the daily encounter rotation differently, dropping Wooper by 10 percent rather than trimming Marill and Quagsire, and adds a girl with a catching challenge plus a Match Up Checker app. The core Safari rules, 500 Pokedollars for 30 Safari Balls and 500 steps, stay the same.
