Diamond & Pearl Great Marsh

Catching here runs on Safari rules instead of battles. The Great Marsh is Pastoria's mud-flat preserve of rope bridges and watch-towers, where rare Pokemon bolt the moment you hesitate.

Great Marsh is in Sinnoh. In the story you arrive from Pastoria City to the south and it comes before Route 212.

GREAT MARSH MAP

Six fenced areas make up the Pastoria marsh, linked by a small rail that ferries you between them. A step limit caps each visit, so a glance through the lookout binoculars first helps you pick a direction.

Pokemon Encounters

The Great Marsh runs a daily rotation, so the safari list changes with the day and the bog floods half the area. Carnivine, Croagunk, and Toxicroak are the local specialties, with rarities like Kangaskhan, Yanma, and Skorupi cycling through the low to mid 20s. Like any safari, you lob bait and mud rather than weaken anything first.

Great Marsh Guide

  • The Great Marsh is Sinnoh's Safari Zone, entered from Pastoria City for a 500 fee that gives you 30 Safari Balls, and a run ends after 30 balls or 500 steps. You act with Ball, Bait, Mud, or Run instead of normal battling. Six special Pokemon rotate daily, one per numbered area at a 10 percent rate, and you can check which are around using the lobby binoculars. HM05 Defog comes from an Ace Trainer near the marsh entrance.
