Vaporeon Weakness

Type-wise, Vaporeon takes extra damage from Electric and Grass. The Water typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Water Absorb grants an additional Water immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Vaporeon's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Vaporeon Guide

  • Vaporeon looks average on paper at 525 BST. But Water Absorb is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. B-Tier tank on our tier list.

  • Vaporeon's biggest threats include Jolteon (Electric) and Exeggutor (Grass), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Vaporeon gets Water Absorb and Hydration. But Water Absorb is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.

  • Vaporeon is a mixed attacker with base 65 Attack and 110 Sp. Atk. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 65 Speed, it won't be moving first often. Fits the tank role.

  • The core moveset is Scald, Wish, Ice Beam, and Protect. Scald leads at 0% usage. Scald provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Present since Red & Blue, Vaporeon appears in 22 games spanning 10 generations. Gen 1 originals like Vaporeon have the longest track record of availability in the series.
