Vaporeon Best Moveset
130 HP at 110 Sp. Atk on Water with AbilityWater Absorb healing 25% when hit by Water moves. Held ItemLeftovers with NatureBold creates a bulky special attacker that outlasts opponents through recovery. The moveset fires special Water TermStab between Wish passes that heal teammates. Tera Fairy changes the defensive matchup without losing the bulk.
110 Special was solid in Gen I (Red & Blue) but Starmie was faster with Psychic STAB, and other Water-types had more versatile movepools. Vaporeon was decent but not distinctive.

Baton Pass plus Acid Armor made Vaporeon a key chain link in Gen II (Gold & Silver). Pass +2 Defense to a sweeper, and the opponent couldn't break through physically.

Vaporeon Weakness
Type-wise, Vaporeon takes extra damage from Electric and Grass. The Water typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Water Absorb grants an additional Water immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Vaporeon's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Steel |

Base Stats
The stat line revolves around HP. Percentage recovery gets extra mileage here. Sp. Atk backs it up, though Defense doesn't pull its weight. Worth 2 HP EVs on a medium-fast 1M XP curve to max out.
It lives close to water. Its long tail is ridged with a fin, which is often mistaken for a mermaid’s.
Vaporeon Guide
Vaporeon looks average on paper at 525 BST. But Water Absorb is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. B-Tier tank on our tier list.
Vaporeon gets Water Absorb and Hydration. But Water Absorb is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.
Vaporeon is a mixed attacker with base 65 Attack and 110 Sp. Atk. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 65 Speed, it won't be moving first often. Fits the tank role.
The core moveset is Scald, Wish, Ice Beam, and Protect. Scald leads at 0% usage. Scald provides reliable STAB damage.
