Blastoise Best Moveset
MoveShell Smash raises Attack, Sp. Atk, and Speed by two stages in one turn, and Held ItemWhite Herb restores the defensive drops instantly. AbilityTorrent at low HP after the offensive push adds even more Water damage. The moveset turns a defensive frame into one of the hardest-hitting Water-types for a single devastating sequence.
Starmie did everything Blastoise wanted to do, but faster and with Psychic STAB. Blastoise was bulky enough but couldn't carve a niche above the competition.

- Body Slam

Rapid Spin gave Blastoise a real job in Gen II (Gold & Silver). It wasn't flashy, but having a hazard remover that could take hits was worth the team slot.

Same reliable spinner role. Toxic, Roar, and Surf kept it useful as a defensive pivot that also handled Spikes.

Stealth Rock made spinners more important than ever, and Blastoise was one of the bulkiest options available. Consistent if unspectacular.

The spinner niche held up, though competition from faster or stronger options started to squeeze it out. Blastoise worked, just barely.

Defog completely overtook Rapid Spin as the preferred hazard control in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Blastoise's main selling point was fading fast.

Shell Smash kept it relevant in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet). White Herb sets let it set up without the defensive drops, giving it a real offensive identity.

Blastoise Weakness
Electric and Grass moves hit Blastoise for super-effective damage. It resists 4 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Blastoise's overall bulk (79/100/105) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

Base Stats
Blastoise's spread isn't flashy. Sp. Def leads, Speed trails, 4 stats clear the bar. Tough to catch and worth 3 Sp. Def EVs, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
It crushes its foe under its heavy body to cause fainting. In a pinch, it will withdraw inside its shell.
Blastoise Guide
Blastoise has a 530 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a situational pick that fills a niche. It works best as a balanced. Base 105 Sp. Def is where it shines.
Yes. Mega Blastoise hits 630 BST, a solid jump from the base 530. Hold the Mega Stone, trigger it in battle, and it lasts the whole fight. One Mega per team.
Torrent strengthens water moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. That's the one you want on Blastoise. Rain Dish is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.
Blastoise fills the balanced role. It's a mixed attacker with base 83 Attack and 85 Sp. Atk. Base 78 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.
Game Availability
Blastoise first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 21 games across 10 generations. It later gained a Mega form in Generation 6 and a Gigantamax form in Generation 8, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
