Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Blastoise Best Moveset

The recommended build leans into Blastoise's strengths as a defensive wall. Sitrus Berry provides a one-time health recovery at low HP, and max HP and Sp. Def EVs back that up. Raindish rounds out the package.

Blastoise Guide

  • In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Blastoise has a 530 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a niche pick in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl's meta. It works best as a balanced. Fakeout with Sitrus Berry is the standard set.

  • Mega Evolution isn't available in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, but Blastoise does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Blastoise hits 630 BST.

  • In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, watch for Raikou (Electric) and Venusaur (Grass) when using Blastoise. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Torrent strengthens water moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. That's the one you want on Blastoise. Rain Dish is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Blastoise fills the balanced role. It's a mixed attacker with base 83 Attack and 85 Sp. Atk. Base 78 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.

Game Availability

Blastoise first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 21 games across 10 generations. It later gained a Mega form in Generation 7 and a Gigantamax form in Generation 8, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
