Don't skip the egg moves. Blastoise picks up Confusion and Flail only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Hydro Pump and Surf while coverage across 8 types adds range.

How to Get Blastoise in Crystal

Blastoise isn't available in the wild in Crystal. Start by transferring Squirtle from Red, Yellow, or Brilliant Diamond. The evolution path from Squirtle to Blastoise is covered in the steps below.

How to Obtain Blastoise in Crystal

  1. Wartortle
    Step 2Evolve into Wartortle
  2. Blastoise
    Step 3Blastoise

Blastoise Guide

  • In Crystal, Blastoise has a 530 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a niche pick in Crystal's meta. It works best as a balanced. Surf with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • Mega Evolution isn't available in Crystal, but Blastoise does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Blastoise hits 630 BST.

  • In Crystal, watch for Raikou (Electric) and Venusaur (Grass) when using Blastoise. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • In Crystal, Blastoise fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 85 Sp. Atk. Base 78 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.

  • For Crystal, Blastoise has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Electric and Grass-type attackers hit hardest.

Game Availability

Blastoise first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 21 games across 10 generations. It later gained a Mega form in Generation 7 and a Gigantamax form in Generation 8, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
