As a Water-type, Blastoise fills a straightforward role. Only weak to Electric and Grass. Known as the Shellfish Pokémon. Known as the Shellfish Pokemon. Can go either physical or special depending on the set.

Blastoise's spread isn't flashy. Sp. Def leads, Speed trails, 4 stats clear the bar. Tough to catch and worth 3 Sp. Def EVs, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

The recommended build leans into Blastoise's strengths as a defensive wall. Leftovers provides passive recovery each turn, and HP-heavy investment EVs back that up. Torrent rounds out the package.

Don't skip the egg moves. Blastoise picks up Flail and Foresight only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Hydro Cannon and Hydro Pump while coverage across 7 types adds range.

No wild encounters for Blastoise. The 3-stage chain runs through Squirtle, which you can catch but it's a rare spawn from the locations below. Evolve at level 36 once you've got the levels.

    Step 3Blastoise
  • Blastoise has a 530 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier — a situational pick that fills a niche. It works best as a balanced. Base 105 Sp. Def is where it shines.

  • Watch for Raikou (Electric) and Venusaur (Grass) when using Blastoise. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Wartortle evolves into Blastoise at level 36. Blastoise is the final evolution in a 3-stage line starting from Squirtle. At 530 BST, it's got solid stats to work with.

  • Torrent strengthens water moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less — that's the one you want on Blastoise. Rain Dish is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Blastoise fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 85 Sp. Atk. Base 78 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.

  • Blastoise appears in 21 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

Blastoise first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 21 games across 9 generations. It later gained a Mega form in Generation 7 and a Gigantamax form in Generation 8, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
