Legends: Z-A Blastoise Best Moveset

The recommended build leans into Blastoise's strengths as a special attacker. White Herb provides a one-time stat drop reset, and max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs back that up. Torrent rounds out the package.

Moves

Without TMs, Blastoise's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get coverage across 9 types on top of Hydro Cannon and Hydro Pump for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

How to Get Blastoise in Legends: Z-A

No wild encounters for Blastoise in Legends: Z-A. Bring Squirtle over from Red, Yellow, or Brilliant Diamond, then level through the stages. Each step in the chain is laid out below.

How to Obtain Blastoise in Legends: Z-A

  1. Wartortle
    Step 2Evolve into Wartortle
  2. Blastoise
    Step 3Blastoise

Blastoise Guide

  • In Legends: Z-A, Blastoise has a 530 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a niche pick in Legends: Z-A's meta. It works best as a balanced. Shellsmash with White Herb is the standard set.

  • Mega Evolution isn't available in Legends: Z-A, but Blastoise does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Blastoise hits 630 BST.

  • In Legends: Z-A, watch for Raikou (Electric) and Venusaur (Grass) when using Blastoise. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Torrent strengthens water moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. That's the one you want on Blastoise. Rain Dish is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • In Legends: Z-A, Blastoise fills the balanced role. It's a mixed attacker with base 83 Attack and 85 Sp. Atk. Base 78 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.

Game Availability

Blastoise first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 21 games across 10 generations. It later gained a Mega form in Generation 7 and a Gigantamax form in Generation 8, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
